Last week I posted a diary about my son, who is successfully staking out a career in film and TV screenwriting, having also just e-published a brilliant sci-fi novel on Amazon entitled “Genesis,” and I said that as proud as I am of my son, the novel IS really brilliant. Now I have confirmation from Amazon. The novel has consistently been in the #23 to #28 range all week in Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” list for Science Fiction/Genetic Engineering. It is maintaining a perfect 5.0 rating from all reviewers. Thanks to all the Daily Kos readers who have downloaded the novel!
The action is set in and around Seattle, in a near future that’s not dystopian, but full of problems as well as marvelously imagined tech and entertainment advances. And it’s a love story (a twisted one, as you will see). Here’s some reactions from Amazon readers:
“Genesis is Sci-Fi with an edgy, hip, humorous twist. Turner creates characters that are real and builds a story that won’t let you go. This is a story that will draw readers from all genres. I LOVED it!”
“Genesis is a fast and thrilling read full of suspense, sharp-witted humor and hip, compelling characters. I highly recommend it.”
“This book moves faster than Space Mountain through a terrain of corporate malevolence and an accidental hero. Matt Turner creates memorable characters quickly, puts them in danger, and gives them the wits to have a fighting chance to survive. He’s also deft at metaphor with descriptions and comparisons that are fresh and funny.”
“What a surprise. I stumbled onto this book through a recommendation by a friend and gave it a go. In a world where people rush through characters and keep things at a surface level, Turner seems to spend time creative emotional depth and weaving his characters into a world of action and humor with ease. It's rare to find a book where I naturally find myself wondering what I would do if I was in the same position as the characters. Most of the time if I read fiction, I'm simply there for entertainment. In the case of Genesis I was projecting myself into the story. Pretty cool.”
“Hmm how do I write a review of the stuff that I loved without spoiling any of the book... ? Ok - well my last few sci-fi reads were in dystopian futures.. I liked that in the universe created by Matt - it's not too far off from our current reality, and yet there are those cool ideas that are just outside of what tech can do today...but hopefully someone with the engineering chops reads it and builds it and we'll have it in our life time.”
“From start to finish a complete thrill ride! I honestly could not put it down once I started. If you love your conspiracy theory narratives with a side of sci-fi, this book is for you!”
“Wow! Great book, crazy story, compelling characters, stomach knotting suspense, mind f***ing plot twists, smart comedy... get it, read it, you won't regret it.”
“This is an amazing story filled with twists and turns I didn't see coming. I couldn't put it down. The author, Matt Turner, did a great job keeping the reader engaged. I couldn't put it down. This is a must read! I highly recommend this for someone looking for their next exciting story to read.”
Here’s Matt’s own write-up of the book:
“Tech icon Aiden Markusson has it all—the lake house, the luxury car, the fastest growing company in Seattle, and the love of his life wearing his engagement ring. But his perfect life comes apart at the seams when he begins to experience blinding headaches and strange bursts of physical ability. Suspicion and paranoia lead him down a rabbit hole of corporate conspiracy where he finds out he’s not losing him mind, it’s much worse than that.
Genesis is a mind-bending thrill ride through a near future where Aiden must face the possibility that he is a bio-fabricated being created by a ruthless multinational corporation. The closer Aiden gets to the truth, the more he becomes something unprecedented, a being more powerful than anyone thought possible. If he can learn to harness his newfound abilities in time, Aiden might find a way to save the woman he loves, his species, and possibly... the future of the human race.”
Genesis is available now on Amazon for $3.99, and for any Kindle Unlimited subscribers, it’s FREE.
